| Mental Supreme Puts Artists Thru Workout At Training Camp
$1000 Tuesday Competition Gets Tough |
Hip Hop was definitely in the building recently for $1000 Tuesday an extra special open mic showcase held at Mental Supreme's Training Camp session on the lower east side of NYC. Each week Preme has been holdin it down for artists who want to get into the industry at the Pyramid Club. His attendance is always up, like a Saturday night crowd, and you're sure to meet other talented artists. The name of the game here is to be professional. On hand for the judging was a rep from the Mixtape Awards started by the late Justo Faison, marketing and promotional executives from the Source Magazine and every manager's favorite radio station shadesradio.com. Shouts to all the acts that performed but the major props of the night went ya girl Cess Wonder aka Wonder Woman. Her song was tight, well rehearsed and projected with clarity and charisma. She had her W.W. accessories right too, with the belt and bracelets workin, and she had a hype man, a definte plus to all performances. Much respect to Mental Supreme for stressing the importance of artists knowing about BDS tracking that they can only get from a legit station like shadesradio.com and our affiliates. Some cats claim to be a station but really have a blog or podcast. We are not a podcast although we do have one as well for the purpose of archiving shows. We are a streaming audio provider 24 hours a day. So as a special consideration to the Training Camp family we will be giving away 50 - 100 BDS spins per week to selected winners of each Training Camp Showcase. and that's not just for the top winner but runner's up as well. So if you know what's good, and you're in the area, you'll be at the next one.

Confessions of A BET Producer
written by Sista Shai, NY Hip Hop Meetup Group |
|

Hotep Family,
Special thanks to all who were able to attend Confessions of a BET Producer on 6/28/08. This was our first event on this level and the talent really came thru big for us. Special Shout out to Dbrad to standing by his story and his community; not an easy task! The Def Poets D-Black & Rainmaker were off the chain. Rainmaker shared poetry in adoration of black womanhood & beauty. D-Black did a piece called "I apologize." He definitely expressed the need to support artists with positive lyrics; if not, don't complain about the negative lyrics, in essence. Shades of Hip Hop Radio kept it SO LIVE !!! You all must check them out at www.shadesradio.com. They hosted the event & displayed MAD Freestyle skills on the microphone! Thank you Brother Kurt Nice and your awesome team. The endorsement of Shades of Hip Hop Radio means a lot to NY Hip Hop Meetup Group. Supa Nova Slom rocked the building as always. DJ Entrified kept the turntables lit up and live - Thank you Entrified and your words of encouragement and guidance meant alot. Brother NYOIL, we have one thing to say to you " NYOIL, Bum Ba Yeah!!!" Brother Aseer & Queen Celina performed and all you saw was true love come from the both of them. True love of Hip Hop as well as of each other. MC Glorious Quan dropped the hot lyrics as only a Zulu can. You gotta check out his myspace page myspace.com/pothpromotions. Special thanks to Brother Ashante for allowing Poetess Ashante to share her words of power. From the Mouth of Babes.....She gives it to us straight with no chaser. For those who were not able to make it, hopefully we will have highlights on YouTube...stay tuned. Thank you to Deborah Leftridge, Sista Carole & Morgan Camper who were the setup and breakdown volunteers. Priestess Meri Abut erected an awesome Frosty Freeze altar. Thank you to Sista Owens & Elder Kurtis Blow of the Greater Hood Memorial AME Zion for allowing us to use the venue. Much respect to Brother BlackDot, an icon of the 5th Element of Hip Hop which is "Knowledge." Do check out his book "Hip Hop Decoded." Special thx for Sista Tamara & Brother Heru Eric for doing the camera work along with Shades of Hip Hop Radio film team. Do check out the NY Hip Hop Meetup @ www.communityconsciousculturalevents.com - click on NY Hip Hop Meetup. Much Luv & Respect to everyone! The Real Hip Hop is Ova Here!!! | A.D.'s B-Day in Brooklyn
Alcohol vs. Weed Survey |
How can I describe this event? It was a great gathering of underground talent on the grind. I saw alot of familiar faces, and got to chop it up with many eager artists out grindin for their craft. It was just a good thing I left at 2am. After that, as everyone that stayed can attest to, it turned somewhat chaotic. After speaking with all parties involved in the melee, it seems that it was nothing more than the usual drunken bravado and chip-ladden shoulders cats walk around with. All of yall was cool peoples individually but you gotta leave that block shit on the block when ya doin business. Mainstream rappers be on some dumb shit when they encourage niggas to wild out in the club. Nothing good comes out of it. People get injuries wit no health insurance, bar owners lose business, promoters get their names smeared, boys get locked up, and your brothers become your enemies over nothing. Remember for real Hip Hop fortified by the Zulu Nation was founded on PEACE, LOVE, UNITY and HAVIN FUN. Plus, if weed was decriminalized, none of this would have happened. Alcohol promotes a 'don't care' attitude marijuana doesn't. You don't have to make it legal. Just not illegal to have under an ounce on you. That way when people gather together in a festive atmosphere, it's all peace. That's just my opinion. What do you think is a more negative influence alcohol or marijuana?

Drahma Magazine Media Blitz Fridays
Club Vesta 390 8th Avenue btwn (29th & 30th) NYC |
|
Since you know its gonna be hectic during the week out there on the grind, come chill with us every Friday. At Vesta, lounge in a laid back atmosphere, enjoy brand new music from some of today's freshest
talent. Then meet, greet and network with industry professionals that are making moves. Promote your material to radio, cable and dvd media outlets. Also see what the latest buzz in Drahma Magazine is all about from CEO Ray Daniels himself. Artists wishing to get coverage are encouraged to come down with CDs, press kits and photos. And it's always a plus to have business cards, a notebook and pen handy. It is your responsibility as an artist or manager to make sure the media knows who you are. Personally, I recommend cards with your picture on it if you are an artist or industry professional. For corporate business it's not necessary but when you are in clubs alot like we are, plain business cards get lost in the shuffle. Matching a face with a name is a big plus. Logos are good but not as memorable as a face. The ideal is to have both (logo and face) with your phone number, email and myspace address prominently displayed.
